PAS is demanding for Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to explain the type of security services provided by businessman Paul Phua for the country, as stated in his letter to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Ahmad Zahid had, in his letter, told the FBI that Phua had assisted the country from time to time in national security projects.

PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar warned that the country could be courting danger if it had been involving the alleged 14K triad member on issues of national security.

He said the party is also waiting for Ahmad Zahid to comment on his decision of sending the letter which vouched for Phua who was charged with illegal betting in the US.

“Does this mean that Ahmad Zahid has more accurate information about Phua than the FBI which is a well known investigation agency? Until today, he has not explained the letter,” Mahfuz said.

He said it was also questionable that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was not aware of the letter.

Muhyiddin had yesterday said that the Cabinet did not discuss the matter before the letter was sent to the FBI.

Mahfuz also questioned if Ahmad Zahid had acted beyond his powers.
