The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today obtained an order to extend the remand of a senior assistant engineer of a Public Works Department who was arrested for alleged corruption, involving RM1.1 million.

Alor Setar Court assistant registrar Wan Nor Fadzillah Ibrahim allowed the MACC's request to further remand the 56-year-old suspect until Jan 31.

The suspect had been in remand for seven days, which ended today.

Last Jan 20, MACC recovered RM1.1 million, which was found hidden in the wall of the master bedroom of the suspect's house.

The suspects was arrested last Jan 18 for allegedly accepting bribes from contractors in connection with 30 road maintenance and upgrading projects in the Sik district since 2012. --Bernama
