JOHOR BAHRU: The Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah today called on the people to give more focus on mental health issues so that they can be detected earlier and take the necessary preventive measures.

"More focus should be given on mental health issues because they can be addressed and the adverse effects can be prevented, starting from our own family members or the community around us.

"I hope the community realises that there are non-governmental organisations that are always ready to assist those who are feeling anxious or facing personal problems through phone calls like the Samaritans," she said in her address when officiating the Mind X Seminar and Virtual Psychology and Counselling Seminar in conjunction with the state-level Counselling Month Celebration which was held virtually here.

Raja Zarith Sofiah said the prolonged period of the Movement Control Order had also affected the mental health of various levels of society.

"These regulations, although intended to protect us from the pandemic, are also seen as restrictions that make it difficult for us to live our daily lives.

"Many people have lost their jobs or source of income and facing financial difficulties. This situation is very challenging, especially from the aspect of mental health," she added.
