KUALA LUMPUR: Genting Malaysia has came out to disprove a deepfake video falsely portraying an Astro AWANI interview with the company's Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive.

The video was used to promote a fraudulent online gaming platform, falsely claiming that an official Genting gambling app is available on major app stores.

In an official statement on their website, Genting Malaysia emphasised that the video does not depict any real events at their resort.

"We wish to stress that neither Genting Malaysia Berhad’s Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive nor Genting Malaysia Berhad is involved or associated in any way or manner to any online gaming platforms or sites in Malaysia.

"We advise the public not to be deceived by the deepfake video and its contents," said the company in an alert on their website.

The company also advised the public to visit their websites www.gentingmalaysia.com or www.rwgenting.com to verify any matters that are related to Genting Malaysia Berhad.

Meanwhile, Astro AWANI has already contacted the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take further action on the matter.

Genting Malaysia Berhad has firmly denied involvement and urges the public not to be deceived.
