FAM secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said the association also regretted that the representative from a local company also proposed the friendly match with the national squad be held on Aug 10.

He said, the date was not suitable as Muslims will still be celebrating Aidilfitri.

"We have however earlier confirmed authenticity of the representative as an agent of Barceleno to avoid having such problems arising in future.

"They have held a meeting with me today at Wisma FAM but I am unable to divulge the details as the two sides have not reached an agreement," he said when met by reporters after announcing the visit of English Premier League club Chelsea FC to Malaysia here today.

An English daily on Feb 28 had reported that the Spanish football giant will be visiting the country after having friendly matches in Beijing and Bangkok its Asian tour.

The matter was denied by FAM in a media statement which was released the next day.

Barcelona FC president Sandro Rosell however confirmed the club is coming to the three countries at the club headquarters in Barcelona two days ago.

Azzuddin said FAM had always welcomed any club wishing to have friendly matches with the national squad but they should follow proper procedures including holding a meeting with FAM earlier.
