The election of the new executive committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for the 2017-2021 term will be held on March 25 next year during its 53rd annual congress.

FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said nominations should be submitted by Jan 23, and the final nomination list would be verified on Feb 20.

"FAM has 19 affiliated members (represented by two delegates each) and one vote from the Football Coaches Association Malaysia for a total of 39 votes.

"The current members of the executive committee cannot be delegates of affiliated members during the election which will be held at Hotel Hilton Petaling Jaya," he said after the 10th FAM executive committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya here.

On several personalities, including FAM Integrity Committee chairman Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat being touted as candidates for FAM president, Afandi said the delegates would decide on the members of the new FAM leadership next year.

"Now, the affiliated members will decide who will represent them," he said.

On the issue arising from a pendrive, Afandi said after studying a report of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), FAM found no element of corruption except for information on technical matters.

"We have received the information about the pendrive, we were also told the report touched on technical matters relating to youth development and coaching education. No other element was found," he said.

Apart from that, Afandi said the FAM legal committee had introduced new regulations on intermediaries appointed to look after the interests of football players, effective next season.

"We will allow players to be represented by any individual or lawyer appointed to manage the contract of players.

"The intermediaries have to be registered with FAM and will be subjected to the conditions we have set...so far, there are 15 intermediaries registered with FAM," he said. -- Bernama
