The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) director of coaching candidate should have organisational skills besides coaching ability, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Expressing his confidence that the BAM will make the right decision, he said, "The duties of director of coaching are more demanding than that of a regular coach. He has to oversee and coordinate all training and development programmes under BAM."

"So they (BAM) have to make the right decision by choosing a candidate who has the experience and knowledge not only as coach," he told reporters after launching the PGM Tour Yearbook at Kinrara Golf Club, Bandar Kinrara near here, Monday.

Earlier, he visited the PGM Peak Performance Golf Academy which was set up to nurture young golfers into world class golfers.

"It's up to BAM if it were to choose Misbun (former national coach and badminton ace Datuk Misbun Sidek) as director of coaching as he is a great coach. He has produced many international players.

"I leave it to BAM to make the decision. Misbun himself is not sure of accepting the position," said Khairy.

Khairy said he would meet BAM president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff soon to discuss the future direction of the BAM.

The BAM was reported to have turned its attention to Misbun after its attempt to hire badminton ace Morten Frost Hansen as director of coaching has been unsuccessful as the Dane's asking price is too high.
