The opposition parties will always find new and current issues to be politicised as a tactic to achieve their main agenda, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.

For one, he said they had clearly pointed fingers and blamed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issues.

"Whatever the current issue is, they will use it to their advantage and politicise it, including the 1MDB issues. The people can clearly see their objectives," he told reporters after attending the Armed Forces Fund Board's (LTAT) Aidilfitri do here today.

He said this in response to the opposition's attempt to take the 1MDB issues to Parliament and to urge the prime minister to resign.

Elaborating further, Hishammuddin said the 1MDB issues were serious issues and should be tackled accordingly with three main elements - accountability, rationalisation and transparency - without causing innocent parties to suffer.

"In finding the truth, we have to be rational and not emotional," he said.

Asked on the civil suit filed by United States Department of Justice to confiscate the assets said to have been bought with illicit 1MDB funds, Hishammuddin said it was part of international law and could not be stopped.

"Don't turn it into a polemic. Let the (investigation) process be done and it is hoped that we will have fair solutions for all on the 1MDB issues," he added.
