The president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) would only be allowed to serve a total of three terms.

Protem president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said as per the party’s constitution, the same applied to the party’s chairman as well.

“This is something new that we are doing, to ensure that the leadership process in the party remain fresh.

“With this, those at the top cannot take pride in being at the top forever,” he said at a Bersatu protem committee press conference here today.

As for the age limit for the party’s youth wing, it stands at 35 years to ensure more opportunities for the youths.

Bersatu protem chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was also at the press conference, expressed the party’s readiness to fulfill whatever condition set by the Registrar of Societies to ensure the party registration is approved.

“We are ready to adhere to the needs of the RoS, if we have done something that goes against rules and regulations. We are ready to listen to the RoS as to why we have yet to be registered as a political party.

“We don’t want to create any problems in this matter, we do not want to go against anyone. However, the only thing we cannot accept is if we’re told to disband the party,” the former prime minister said.

Since the new party submitted its registration to the RoS on Aug 9, Dr Mahathir said thousands have expressed their wish to apply to join.

However, they could not proceed with member registration pending approval from the RoS. The registration for new members would be open as soon as the party is approved, Dr Mahathir added.

In Bersatu, Bumiputera can apply to be full members while non-Bumis can apply as associate members.
