A teenager's fervour to join the armed forces caused him to attempt trespassing into the 10th Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) Camp, at Majidee Camp, KM8 of Jalan Tanjung Laboh, near Batu Pahat, yesterday morning.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said the incident occurred at 11.15am, when the 17-year-old, dressed in full army uniform attempted to enter the camp by motorcycle.

However, Abdul Wahid said Lee was detained at the guard post as he did not have any identification documents on him.

"Lee expressed his interest in joining the army and had even bought military uniform in Kluang, Johor, with a price of RM170, three years ago, but had not worn it until yesterday," he said in a statement here today.

Investigation revealed that the boy's father had just died three days ago, while his mother passed away when he was seven, and was believed to be mentally ill.

Abdul Wahib said Lee claimed that he only wanted to enter the camp to do military training as he had great interest in the army, and was not coerced to trespass.

Upon inspection, the police seized a motorcycle, several types of military uniform of lance corporal ranking and military equipment from Lee's house.

However, Abdul Wahib requested that his arrest not be sensationalised and denied allegations that Lee was involved in Pokemon-catching activities.

He also verified that this was the first time such an incident had occurred at the military camp.

The suspect is currently being remanded until Aug 14 at the Batu Pahat police station for further investigation.
