Phillipus Jani, 44, is an innovator and creator of the Somporing - a full-fledged saxophone uniquely made from bamboo.

He is also one of the exhibitors at WIF-KL 2013 and he will be performing at the WIF-KL 2013 Gala Dinner together with Adi from 6ixth Sense.

He was discovered by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia through Jejak Inovasi in 2011.

His passion for the saxophone began in 1993 when he borrowed the instrument from a friend. Not knowing how to play it, he returned the instrument a week later, but the mellow sounding instrument remained in his thoughts.

“It was like falling in love.” he remarked, and out of this love, he created the instrument out of bamboo - a more affordable material and called it Somporing.

It took him 13 years to fine-tune his creation. This innovation is lighter and easier to play as compared to normal saxophone.

To date, he has sold 78 units of the Somporing to markets in Europe, Japan, and Korea, among others.

As a music lover and artist, it is only natural for Phillipus Jani to move on to the next level, and that is to produce his very own single.

Through the Makeover Programme under Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia and in collaboration with Universal Music Malaysia, his debut single was released featuring local singer Adi Priyo of 6ixth Sense.
