As expected, women's world number one, Datuk Nicol David lived up to expectations by moving into the second round of the 2013 CIMB Kuala Lumpur Open by sweeping aside qualifier Siyoli Waters of South Africa at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, here, Wednesday.

In today's first round match, Nicol took just 31 minutes to beat her opponent in straight sets, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6.

"She played her game very well. Her style was different from the other girls. She's an attacking player and this court really suits her. However, I managed to work on my own game and took control," Nicol said after her match.

In tomorrow's second round, the Malaysian star is scheduled to meet Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy, who defeated unseeded Aisling Blake of Ireland, 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 10-12, 11-9.

Meanwhile, Low Wee Wern was also through to the second round after beating England's Lauren Briggs, also in straight sets, 16-14, 11-4, 11-3 in 39 minutes.

In tomorrow's second round, Wee Wern is scheduled to meet Ireland's Madeline Perry who had an easy passage against a qualifier, Lucie Fialova of the Czech Republic, cruising through 11-2, 11-5, 11-3.

"Lauren played quite well. She was previously among the top 15 in the world. Our first game was really close although I had an easy win in the next two games.

"I have to keep the momentum going in the next round because I know the match will be very close. Madeline is more experienced than me. I've met her previously and beat her twice," she said.

Meanwhile, national number three, Delia Arnold and qualifier Zulhijjah Azan were shown the exit by stronger opponents.

Delia was defeated by world number two and the tournament's second seed, Raneem El Weleily of Egypt, 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 1-11 in a match that lasted only 28 minutes while Zulhijjah was easily beaten by Natalie Grinham from the Netherlands 3-11, 3-11 and 2-11 in just 19 minutes.

In the men's category which continued with the qualifying round, Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan marched to the main draw after defeating India's Harinder Pal Sandhu in a tense 61-minute match, eventually winning 11-8, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9.

Harinder gained back his composure in the third set and managed to prevent Mohd Nafiizwan from winning the match in straight sets but the latter had the better of the fourth set to emerge victorious.

Also moving into the main draw was Ivan Yuen who beat compatriot Elvinn Keo, 9-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9.

They will join Ong Beng Hee and Muhd Asyraf Azan in the main action, Thursday.
