Axed Selangor head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan is reeling in shock over the termination of his contract by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS).

"It is their right to do so since my services are not needed. I am shocked by the decision as I did not see it coming," he said when contacted by Bernama, here, today.

The FAS said Zainal Abidin's sacking followed the poor performance by the Selangor team which culminated in a fourth straight loss in the Super League this season.

Explaining the team's performance, Zainal Abidin said Selangor got their season to a good start but their performance declined following the absence of several key players due to injury.

In SHAH ALAM, FAS general secretary Rosman Mohd Ibrahim and honorary treasurer Datuk S. Sivasundram expressed their willingness to quit their posts.

This followed the decision of Selangor Menteri Besar and FAS president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to revamp the football squad and the FAS.

In a joint statement, Rosman and Sivasundram said they fully supported the decision and hope that the changes will be implemented effectively.

"After more than 20 years working in the local football scene, issues such as rebranding and privatisation must be addressed to restore Selangor's glory," said the statement.
