The FA of Malaysia (FAM) is full of praise for the exemplary behaviour shown by Selangor and Kedah fans at last night's Malaysia Cup final.

"Credit is due to them. They were highly disciplined and displayed true sporting spirit before, during and after the final.

"The presence of some 70,000 Selangor and Kedah fans really fired up the final and there was an atmosphere of celebration. I found there wasn't the need to light up flares or hurl smoke bombs," FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said in a statement here today.

He added that what was shown by the fans last night should serve as a benchmark for all football supporters in the country.

In the same statement, Hamidin also congratulated Selangor for winnning the final and lifting the Malaysia Cup for 33rd time.

Selangor defeated Kedah 2-0 in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Hamidin also praised the Royal Malaysia Police for ensuring there were no untowards incident during the final.

He said the presence of 2,200 policemen and security officials kept things under control in and outside the stadium right till the end.
