KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has stressed that the post of prime minister belongs to UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Speaking at a press conference after his keynote address at the 2020 UMNO General Assembly (PAU 2020), here today, he said UMNO needed to be a ‘striker’ (key player) and could no longer be a ‘little chick’.

“The post of Prime Minister is for UMNO, for BN. No other way.

“UMNO cannot be a 'little chick', UMNO must be a mother hen.

"A mother will love all her children. Not just the Malays that we will look after, we will look after all races," he said.

Mohamad said UMNO, which has been leading the country for 60 years, was not used to following and submitting to the instructions of any party.

“Although UMNO is one of the components in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, UMNO only follows and submits to the instructions issued. UMNO is not used to that.

“UMNO and BN have been leading the country for 60 years and we have a good record.

"UMNO must be the parent party and the core of the country's administration," he said.

When asked who in BN to be appointed as prime minister, he jokingly said that he was the most suitable candidate.

"I'm just joking, the party will make a decision.

"We should not be bound in a conventional way but need to consider the wishes of all parties," he said.
