The thought of being Opposition Leader does not cross his mind at this point, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

While recognising Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Opposition Leader, Muhyiddin said his focus was only on strengthening Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), where he is protem chairman.

“This party has yet to be approved. This is where my focus lies – the establishment of this party and to gain as many members as possible. And then, to set up nationwide divisions, to prepare for the upcoming general election and to kick-start negotiations with ally parties.

“There’s a lot more important things for me to focus on right now, in these early stages. The question of being Opposition Leader is not in my mind,” he told reporters at a Bersatu protem committee press conference held here today.

Muhyiddin was asked about PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s comment that he could become the Opposition Leader if Bersatu was committed to the ‘Reformasi’ (reformation) agenda.

However, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had subsequently stressed that PKR had no need to appoint Muhyiddin as Opposition Leader, and that Pakatan Harapan had never discussed the matter.

Mohamed Azmin had said, PKR was adamant in maintaining party president Wan Azizah as Opposition Leader as well as the one to lead Pakatan Harapan.
