KUALA LUMPUR:Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has the best opportunity to make Parliament a place for honest cooperation, discussion and governing together with opposition parties for the good of the country, said DAP Strategic Director, Liew Chin Tong.

He said the government should not be afraid of Parliament and could no longer treat the opposition like an enemy of the country.

However, the former Deputy Minister of Defence said Muhyiddin must sacrifice his two ministers, namely Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

Chin Tong claimed that Hamzah had done various things that put Muhyiddin's administration to risks.

"The attempt to apply for a declaration of Emergency was also alleged as another action of Hamzah, with Azmin Ali openly defending it. I have heard a proposal to suspend Parliament two weeks before this application is tabled.

“I have also read the statement of MIC President (Tan Sri) S Vigneswaran, who may be trying to see the sentiments of the community. But I was shocked when Muhyiddin really followed the proposal and presented it to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” said Chin Tong.

But Chin Tong said the decision by Yang di-Pertuan Agong to reject the application showed the wisdom of His Majesty and the Malay Rulers in understanding the anxiety of the people.

He added that in order to create good cooperation between the government and the opposition, Muhyiddin should ask Azmin and Hamzah to resign and be responsible for giving wrong advice regarding the declaration of Emergency and creating a toxic political arena.

"With the resignation of Hamzah and Azmin from the Cabinet, cooperation between the component parties and the friendly Perikatan Nasional will improve, and a more friendly relationship between the government and the opposition can be realised in order to address COVID-19 threat," he added.
