KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi must be responsible and not qualified to continue holding the post if the audio revelation between him and Parti Keadilan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is found to be genuine.

UMNO veteran, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said, many parties, especially UMNO members have high hopes for Ahmad Zahid to lead the party well.

"In my opinion, it is not good, a leader should not behave like that. He must be more responsible because people put hope in him to lead better. Don't take things easy.

"Regarding this audio recording, I don't know if it's true or not, but I hear a voice like his voice.

"If it's true it's his voice, if it's true he has such intentions. As his voice is, he is not responsible, then he does not deserve to stay there," he said as reported by Sinar Harian on Thursday.

Meanwhile, when asked about the meeting with Ahmad Zahid and Barisan Nasional (BN) Advisory Board Chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak before the UMNO General Assembly, Tengku Razaleigh said, they just came to ask for advice.

"We have met. He and Najib met with me, to ask if I agreed with the preparations that had been prepared by both of them.

“I said, proceed as usual, because at the UMNO General Assembly, usually UMNO delegates will follow the wishes of the leaders as long as we are sincere and frank with them (members).

"They will follow our wishes. So, that was my only advice, there is no specific agenda,” he said.
