UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed his party and Pas has invited Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to join Muafakat Nasional (MN).

The confirmation was made after a letter went viral on social media on Thursday regarding an invitation to Bersatu to join MN.

Zahid explained that the invitation was decided in a meeting co-chaired by UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

"I and the PAS President (Abdul Hadi Awang) signed an invitation letter to PPBM based on the decision of the meeting," he wrote on Twitter last night.

On Thursday, a letter dated 13 August signed by Zahid and Hadi that was addressed to Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, went viral on social media.

Through the letter, UMNO and Pas expressed their readiness to accept Bersatu in the unregistered political cooperation.

The invitation letter to Bersatu appeared when Pas through its secretary general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed that the Islamic party became the co-sponsor party with Bersatu to register the Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Earlier, Muhyiddin announced that the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council had agreed to join MN in the near future.

However, some UMNO leaders were unhappy with the announcement made by Muhyiddin and explained that the party's grassroots did not agree to accept Bersatu in MN.
