Police today shot dead three armed robbers in a raid at Highland Towers condominium.

However, three others managed to escape in the 5am operation.

Selangor Criminal Investigation chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the robbers have been using a room in the first floor of Block C of the condominium as their hide-out before carrying out robberies.

He said police were tipped off that the group were planning for a heist in a residence nearby before their plans were foiled by the police.

He said the robbers after realising police had surrounded them, had tried to escape to a forest behind the condominium, forcing police to fire several shots.

"Three of the men were hit while three others had escaped," he told reporters at a press conference today.

Police also found hand gloves, masks, parang, sickle and a weapon believed to be air gun at the location.

He said the group was believed to have been active for the last two years and involved in at least 26 armed robberies involving some RM 545,900.

Police are unable to confirm the identities of those shot dead as they did not have any identification documents on them.

Those shot dead were in their 30s, he added.

Adnan said police are on the hunt for the three other robbers.
