Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia today urged the media to bear with the inconvenience of having to restrict the number of reporters covering parliament sittings due to the ongoing renovation and for security reasons.

"I hope the media practitioners and government officials working in Parliament can be patient. I will personally make sure that all can perform their duty in comfort," he said.

Pandikar Amin was commenting on the decision to restrict the number of media personnel in Parliament starting today, which raised objections from some of the media organisations.

He told Bernama that there were too many reporters at Parliament and that it was difficult to distinguish between reporters from the mainstream media and the portals.

He hit out at opposition MPs who claimed that the decision to restrict media personnel was to curb reporting on the winding up of debate on the Supply Bill 2016.
