The construction of the Shah Alam Hospital in Section 7 is now complete, leaving just the final phase of bringing in and testing medical equipment.

Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said, however, numerous accreditation processes of the building and equipment had to be carried out before the hospital was opened to the public.

"Too many machines and equipment are being brought into the hospital and all must undergo the testing and commissioning process of the public works department and health ministry," he told reporters after opening a two-day Quantity Surveyors International Convention 2013 here, starting today.

He said this when asked to comment on the official opening of the hospital which was scheduled this month, as promised by former works minister Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor in December last year.

"As to when the hospital can be opened, will depend on the testing process of the equipment which will surely take time as they are numerous and of various sizes. Normally, testing the big ones (equipment) will be time-consuming," said Fadillah.

Nevertheless, he said the ministry would endeavour to ensure the hospital would be operational as early as June next year.

The construction of the RM482.6 million hospital began on Nov 15, 2007 and was scheduled to have been ready by June 25, 2011.

However, the project was delayed after the contractor concerned failed to carry it out.
