KUALA LUMPUR:Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has stressed that he does not understand why former Attorney-General Tommy Thomas is still unclear with his decision to resign as Prime Minister last year.

According to him, he became the prime minister because of his capacity as the Bersatu chairman but by that time, the party had lost confidence in him.

"When I no longer have the confidence of my party, I can no longer be the party chairman. I decided to resign as Bersatu chairman.

“I was appointed as the Prime Minister (PM) because I am the Bersatu chairman. When I am no longer the Bersatu chairman, I am no longer eligible to be prime minister.

"So, I had to resign as prime minister," he wrote in his blog on Friday.

Dr Mahathir stressed that he fell along with the fall of PH and it is unreasonable for him to continue to be prime minister when PH is no longer the government.

“Kit Siang thinks the PH government fell because I resigned. If PH still has a majority, it will not fall.

“PH can elect other members of the Dewan Rakyat to be the prime minister.

“Anwar Ibrahim is really interested in becoming prime minister. But because PH lost the majority at at the time I resigned, Anwar could not replace me,” he explained.
