KUALA LUMPUR:The political crisis in Perak brings a new dimension to the political sphere as the government itself is facing opposition from the same bloc.

Universiti Utara Malaysia political analyst Md Shukri Shuib said the situation was a result of the failure of Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in garnering majority support at the state legislative assembly.

He warned that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin might face the same situation in the Dewan Rakyat.

"The fact is, a Menteri Besar under the Perikatan Nasional government, and the Prime Minister, is not only facing opposition in the Dewan Rakyat but but also from within the government itself.

"So, the Perak State Assembly scenario may reach the national level.

“That is worrying because the implications are very big, there is a domino or chain effect," he told Astro AWANI today.

Yesterday, Ahmad Faizal, who is also the deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, failed to get the majority of votes in the Perak State Assembly, when only 10 of the 59 state assemblymen supported his position as Menteri Besar.

It is understood that of the 10 ADUNs who supported, four were from Bersatu itself, three from PAS, one from Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, one from UMNO, and another was an independent elected representative.

Meanwhile, Md Shukri said the breakdown of assemblymen in the State Legislative Assembly showed that none of the political parties had enough numbers to form a new government.
