Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak discussed the second wave of the Look East Policy 2.0 during a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe here, today.

According to an official, the collaborative linkages within the policy should fit Malaysia's Vision 2020 and Japan's aim of revitalising the country's economy as well as strengthen engagement with ASEAN.

Najib announced the Policy 2.0 during his official visit to South Korea in December last year.

The bilateral meeting which lasted 40 minutes also touched on areas such as defence cooperation, maritime, high speed rail and reforms of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC).

Abe is in Kuala Lumpur to attend the two-day 27th ASEAN Leaders Summit starting tomorrow, where he will highlight Japan's position on global issues and to promote economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the meeting, he also congratulated Najib on his successful chairmanship of ASEAN and the East Asia Summit.
