SEREMBAN: The increasing trend in support for Barisan Nasional (BN) from the Indian community is believed to continue until the polling day of the 15th General Election (GE15).

BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan described it as a positive development from several series of by-elections and the state elections in Melaka and Johor.

"There is an increase in support for BN from the Indian community. In Melaka, for example, it went up by 28 percent. In Johor, the pattern continues.

"The response (from the Indian community) is very encouraging. In GE14, they would avoid the BN logo. This time, they approach BN. This will be translated through votes in this GE," he told reporters at Taman Permata here.

Mohamad, who is contesting the Rembau parliamentary seat, said he was confident the Indian community would give their support to BN.

Meanwhile, BN candidate for Port Dickson, Datuk P. Kamalanathan said although he is a 'parachute' candidate, he is accepted by the multi-racial community in the constituency.

"There is no pressure at all, I feel very grateful because I have met many of the residents and their response was positive," he said when met after a walkabout in Lukut, Port Dickson.

Kamalanathan said in his campaign, he explained to the residents about BN's plans to make Port Dickson a tourism hub.

The former Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament said there are several other issues that need to be addressed immediately in Port Dickson, such flood problems and roads.

Kamalanathan will face Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun of Pakatan Harapan, Dr Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri (Pejuang), and two Independent candidates, Rafiei Mustapha and Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah, for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 19 as the polling day for GE15 and early voting is on Nov 15.
