IPOH: There were mixed results for several heavyweight candidates in Perak in the 15th General Election (GE15) announced last night.

In Bagan Datuk, Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi won with a narrow margin of 348 votes defeating Pakatan Harapan's Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (16,230), Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Dr Nik Muhammad Faiz Naaman (8,822) and Independent, Mohamed Tawfik Tun Dr Ismail (226).

BN communications director Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah retained the Lenggong parliamentary seat with a majority of 879 votes defeating PN's Muhamad Rif'aat Razman (11,709) and PH candidate Jurey Latiff Rosli (3,382).

In the Gerik parliamentary seat contest, UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki's first attempt to contest in Perak did not bear fruit when he lost to PN candidate Fathul Huzir Ayob by 1,377 votes.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir also lost the Lumut parliamentary seat to PN candidate Commander (R) Nordin Ahmad Ismail by 363 votes.

In Sungai Siput, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran lost to incumbent S. Kesavan by 1,846 votes, while his deputy Datuk Seri M. Saravanan retained Tapah with a majority of 5,064 votes.

In Tanjung Malim, MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon failed to defeat the incumbent, Perak PKR chief Chang Lih Kang, who won with a majority of 3,541 votes.

In the Tambun parliamentary seat contest, PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost to PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PH) by 3,736 votes.

However, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin retained the Larut parliamentary seat by obtaining a majority of 11,598 votes, defeating BN candidate Mohd Shafiq Fhadly Mahmud, Zolkarnain Abidin (PH) and Berjasa candidate, Auzaie Fadzlan Shahidi.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming retained the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat with a majority of 15,169 votes.
