KUALA LUMPUR:Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has stressed that the proclamation of Emergency Proclamation implemented nationwide until August 1 is not a form of military coup but a proactive measure to curb the symptoms of the COVID-19 epidemic.

He also assured that no curfew order would be implemented during the emergency period.

"I would like to emphasise that the state of emergency declared by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is not a form of military coup, a curfew will not be implemented.

"On the other hand, the civil government will continue to function. Let me assure you that the civilian government continues to function.

“The Emergency proclaimed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, it's not a military coup and curfew will not be enforced," he said in a Prime Minister’s Special Message on Monday.

Muhyiddin added that the Cabinet and the State Government Council will continue to function as usual during the emergency period.

"The Cabinet and state government councils will continue to function in accordance with the Federal Constitution and any ordinance that will be proclaimed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong from time to time.

"I assure that the administrative and civil service machinery of the Federal and state governments will not be disturbed by the declaration of emergency," he added.

Earlier, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has consented to the proclamation of Emergency Proclamation being implemented nationwide as a proactive measure to curb the symptoms of the COVID-19 epidemic.

His Majesty also consented to the period of emergency implementation until August 1, 2021 or an earlier date if the daily COVID-19 positive case figures can be controlled and lowered effectively.
