KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,192 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours with three of them being import cases receiving infections from abroad.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 285,761.

At the same time, the number of patients who recovered from the pandemic also continued to show an increase with 3,414 cases, thus making the cumulative number of cases recovered now at 252,623.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah, said the active cases with COVID-19 infectivity recorded by the Ministry of Health in the last 24 hours were 32,076 cases.

He also informed of an increase of six new deaths, bringing the cumulative number of deaths to 1,062 cases.

Meanwhile, for contagion by state, Selangor reported the highest new daily cases of 910 cases (41.5 per cent).

"Of these, 742 cases (81.5 per cent) are from clusters and COVID-19 close contact screening actively conducted in the field.

"This is followed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 303 cases (13.8 per cent) and Sarawak with 221 cases (10.1 per cent).

“A total of 109 cases (5.0 per cent) reported were related to clusters in prisons and immigration detention depots involving Tembok Tapah Cluster (39 cases), Tembok Bendera Cluster (26 cases), Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (25 cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa Cluster (9 cases), Tembok Bukit Besi Cluster (6 cases), Tembok Taiping Cluster (2 cases), Tembok Sungai Udang Cluster (1 case), and DTI Sepang 2 Cluster (1 case)," he explained.

In the meantime, he said, the death cases involved two cases in Selangor, and one each in Pahang, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak.

"A total of five death cases involved citizens and one non-citizen," he said.

He added eight new clusters have been identified involving seven workplace-related clusters and one cluster involving the community.
