KUALA LUMPUR:Police today showed their compassionate side when they visited a woman, who was recently caught for shoplifting, at her flat in Petaling Jaya and surprised her with some contributions.

The mother of three is said to have failed to pay for some items, like the Kool Fever patch, sausages and cakes amounting to RM58 for her children, one of whom was having a fever, when she was arrested by the security guard of a supermarket in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

Petaling Jaya District Police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the contributions that were handed over to her were items that she had failed to pay for yesterday, food as well as daily necessities donated by the Welfare Department.

“I felt that I needed to come and help provide her with this contribution after learning of the incident when the supermarket called to make a report on the same day.

“I also advised her to seek zakat (tithe) assistance, go to the mosque or even come to the police station if she ever needed help again,” he told Bernama.

Nik Ezanee said he also advised the woman, who is in her 30s, never to repeat her action and that the case had been classified as “no further action” (NFA).

“The woman and her husband, who works as an elevator repairman, have been affected by the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the spread of COVID-19. This is the time for all members of the society to help one another,” he said.

The Petaling Jaya District Headquarters’ official Facebook page posted about the visit and it received positive feedback.
