Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today called on the people to appreciate the sacrifice made by security forces personnel who are unable to celebrate Aidilfitri with their families because they have to be on duty to maintain peace in the country.

The Prime Minister said these personnel were on duty all over the country to ensure that the people could spend the month of Ramadan and enjoy Aidilfitri in peace and harmony.

"I wish to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our security forces personnel who are unable to celebrate Aidilfitri with their families.

"Theirs is a great service and we Malaysians highly appreciate their sacrifice," he said in a speech on the last days of Ramadan and the advent of Syawal uploaded onto his blog, NajibRazak.com.

Najib said Ramadan was a month of worship and Aidilfitri celebrated the success of having worshipped during the whole month of Ramadan.

He urged Muslims to fulfil the Ramadan worship and try to receive the blessings of Lailatul-Qadar.

"Indeed, the night of Lailatul-Qadar promises a multitude of blessings besides receiving the forgiveness of God," he said.

With the last nights of Ramadan and the advent of Syawal, he said, many Muslims were excited about returning to their villages and hometowns to celebrate Aidilfitri.

"Already, there are people who have started their journey back to their villages. Exercise caution on the road. We want to reach our destinations safely.

"Let our parents or grandparents welcome us cheerfully in the village," he said.
