Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Sunday congratulated national badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei for ending Malaysia's 13-yeat wait to win the China Open title.

"Congratulations @LeeChongWei! Defeating not one but two of China's badminton giants, Chen Long and Lin Dan on their own turf, it is a victory to be proud of!," Najib said in his Twitter entry.

Najib is in Antalya, Turkey leading the Malaysian delegation to the two-day G20 Summit which ends Monday.

In the final at the Haixia Olympic Sports Centre in Fuzhou, China Sunday, Chong Wei, the former world number one, took 50 minutes to brush aside current world number one Chen Long in straight sets of 21-15 and 21-11.

In the semifinals on Saturday, Chong Wei had prevailed over his arch nemesis Lin Dan 17-21, 21-19, 21-19 in an epic battle that lasted 92 minutes.

The last time a Malaysian won the men's singles title was in 2002 with Wong Choong Hann doing the honours.
