Former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim announced today that he has joined the DAP.

The announcement was made during a press conference at his home in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday.

The press conference was also attended by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP adviser, Lim Kit Siang.

"I would like to announce today that I have joined the DAP. I have been in politics for quite a long time, and my principles remain the same.

"Leaders must be honest, responsible and fair. So I believe DAP can assist in realising this goal," he told reporters at his residence at the Tropicana Golf Resort, here today.

According to Zaid, he does not wish to hold any post in the party. Instead, he just wants to be an ordinary member.

"I do not wish to hold any post, I just want to contribute to the party," he said.

He said the decision to join the DAP was his own choice and not at the request of any party.

Zaid is also confident in gaining support from the Malays to join the party.
