The Terengganu government will build new settlements for residents of Langkap who are affected by floods almost every year.

Langkap assemblyman Datuk Sabri Mohd Noor said several areas for the new settlements had been identified, such as in Kampung Pelong, Kampung Kerbau Menyusup and Kampung Pengkalan Merbau.

"We will provide the infrastructure, such as roads, water and electricity supplies as soon as possible for the convenience of the residents moving into the new settlements. Without these facilities, they would not want to move.

"I will also use the allocation of RM10 million set aside by the state government to ensure that the project will run smoothly and solve the flood problems faced by Langkap residents once and for all.

"The new settlements are important not only to save their properties, but also their lives, especially the children," he told reporters after distributing flood aid to 437 families in Langkap, involving an allocation of RM437,000.

Langkap is the first constituency to distribute the flood aid, in which each family receives RM1,000, courtesy of the state and federal government.
