MELAKA:The mother of a child who died from alleged abuse in an incident at Taman Krubong Jaya, here, on Friday had received treatment from a psychiatrist.

The head of the state Criminal Investigation Department, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sukri Kaman said the 32-year-old suspect, however, only received regular treatment and was not confirmed as a patient with mental illness.

"Yes, the suspect used to get treatment, but it has been a long time, since 2019.

"She received treatment at the Melaka Hospital. She received normal treatment; the woman was not (mental) as alleged," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI.

Earlier, Astro AWANI reported that the suspect and her partner were remanded for seven days following the death of the seven-year-old boy on Friday.

In the incident, police said they received a call from the victim's 38-year-old stepfather who informed that his son had drowned in a 60.9 centimeter high water tank in the house.

However, further investigations revealed bruises and injuries on the child. The body was taken to the Melaka Hospital for an autopsy.

Commenting further, Mohd Sukri urged the community to stop all forms of speculation that could confuse the community apart from interfering with the authorities' investigation.

"Leave it to the police to conduct its investigation. The police will ensure that the investigation is carried out in accordance with the law, in a transparent, fair and trustworthy manner," he said.
