KUALA LUMPUR:The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for Seremban Prison and its quarters in Negeri Sembilan has been extended by two weeks from tomorrow until Dec 21.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO was extended after the Health Ministry (MOH) assessed the risk of COVID-19 infection in the two localities.

“As at Dec 4, MOH has conducted 1,582 screenings and 964 cases of positive COVID-19 have been detected at the prison involving inmates and staff.

“MOH confirmed that the results for the remaining 185 screening samples taken in the second test are pending,” he said in a statement today.

The EMCO in the two places was imposed on Nov 24 and due to end today.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO in Kampung Sabah Baru, Lahad Datu, Sabah would end as scheduled today.

It was first enforced on Nov 10 and later extended until today.

In another development, Ismail Sabri said 487 individuals were arrested yesterday for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO), with 470 issued compound fines and 17 remanded.

The offences included failure to practise physical distancing (205), entertainment centre activities (94), not wearing face masks (77), failure to provide log-in equipment for customers (59) and others (52).

In Operasi Benteng yesterday, 25 illegal immigrants and one skipper were nabbed, he added.
