The Selangor government should decide if it wants to continue to allow foreign workers to have free rides on the Selangorku buses, said a Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman.

Dengkilassemblyman Shahrum Mohd Sharif said the free bus service launched in July 2015 which was supposed to be enjoyed by low-income Selangor residents was taken advantage of by foreign workers, especially Bangladeshis.

"Priority should be given to low-income Malaysians living in Selangor instead of foreigners residing in the state," he told reportersatthe lobby of the Selangor State Assembly building, here, today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had reportedly said the Selangor government could not prohibit foreign nationals from boarding the Selangorku buses because they too contributed to the economic development of the country and state.

Shahrumsaid if the state government wanted to continue allowing foreign workers on the Selangorku buses, they should be charged reasonable fares.

He said the state government should also hold a meeting withtaxi associationsto establish whether the income of the drivers had been affected after foreigners took the free bus rides.

He also urged the state government to immediately table the Public Transport Master Plan to the assemblymen and stakeholders in an effort to solve the state's traffic problems. - BERNAMA
