A fisherman was found dead near the location where a Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft carrier had to make an emergency landing in Pantai Asam Jawa here this morning.

The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Abu Hassan Abdul Latif, who tried to get close to the plane area before his feet got stuck in the mud.

His identity was confirmed by his sister Jamaliah Abdul Latif, 24, when met at the authorities' operations centre nearby the landing area.

"We have identified the deceased as my brother. Now, we are in the midst of seeking for his personal documentation because the hospital is asking for them," said Jamaliah.

She described her brother as kind and was always helping people.

"I was shocked when we received the news from the authorities.

"My brother specialised in searching for snails. He lives alone at his house. No wife or children," Jamaliah added.

Investigations are currently being conducted by the police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysian Civil Defence Department.

The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but it is believed that the victim might have drowned after being stuck in mud.

In the 8.50am incident, the Subang-based CN235 aircraft was carrying eight crew members when it had to make the emergency landing.

All crew members have been reported to be safe.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak called on the authorities to probe the incident immediately.
