KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will officiate the Firefighters' Day 2022 celebration which will be held on May 22 in Kepala Batas, Penang, said Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

He said the celebration would be enlivened with a number of interesting programmes such as parades of fire engines, personnel from state contingents as well as the airport fire contigent, the Army Fire Brigade and frontliners.

"Other programmes include the fire and water safety exhibition as well as the sale of fire extinguishers and smoke detectors," he said on TV3's Malaysia Hari Ini (MHI) programme today.

In line with the theme 'Bomba Frontliner Keluarga Malaysia', Mohamad Hamdan said the department would honour its personnel who died while carrying out their duties with appreciation awards, in recognition of their services and contributions.

"The objective of the celebration is to appreciate the hard work, sacrifice and service of every firefighter who risks their lives to ensure the safety of the people," he said.

The Firefighters' Day is observed annually on May 4 but as it falls on Syawal 3 this year, the celebration is postponed to this Sunday.
