Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar lambasted the Selangor government for failing to tackle the river pollution, which has caused the closure of the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant for the ninth time recently.

Noh, who is also Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, said the illegal factories near Sungai Semenyih, which were the source of the pollution, should not be allowed to operate.

"They can demolish small stalls, but why not these illegal factories? They should take stern action (now), not to wait for something to happen," he told reporters after a town hall session on Urban Wellbeing Master Plan here today.

He was commenting on the closing of the water treatment plant on Tuesday, after a recent closure from Sept 22 to 24.

Following that, several areas in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang and Petaling have been experiencing water supply disruption.

Noh said the state government should have a long-term structured plan to prevent recurrence of the problem. - Bernama
