Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom has called on Muslims to hold yasin and tahlil recitation in all mosques in the country.

He said this followed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's statement on Monday that the Malaysia Airline jetliner ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

Jamil Khir said the national level of yassin and tahlil recital was scheduled at Masjid Negara after the maghrib prayers on Thursday.

"I and the rest of the federal religious agencies share the grief of the families. The tragedy is felt not only by Malaysians but people from all over the world who hope that the aircraft is found soon," he said in a statement, here Wednesday.

On the 'solat jenazah ghaib' (special funeral prayers) Jamil Khir said that the prayers would only be held after the search was concluded.

The National Fatwa Committee for Islamic Religious Affairs had categorised the MH370 crew and passengers as 'mafqud' (missing persons).

Najib announced that MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean based on analysis of data by Inmarsat and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB).
