"Just for riding a bicycle with a modified handle, a teacher can beat up and step on my son?" asked Jamsari Mohd Hassan in disbelief.

The father to Khairul Najwan, a Year Six pupil at Tikam Batu in Sungai Petani, Kedah, claimed that his son is now facing emotional distress after the alleged incident.

Jamsari said what was more alarming was that the teacher had defended the act and justified it as 'a teacher's right'.

"I was very shocked. I also questioned this particular teacher, if he was trying to teach my son or abuse him?" Jamsari told the media when met at his home here earlier today.

In relating the incident, Khairul Najwan claimed that the teacher did tend to his wounds after what happened.

The 12-year-old also claimed that the teacher warned him against reporting the matter to his parents.

Following the alleged incident, Jamsari lodged a police report last Thursday. He said he hoped the police would investigate the incident immediately.

He also said to date, he has not received any call from the school.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Kuala Muda district police chief, ACP Md Zukir Isa confirmed receiving the report.

He said investigations would be conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

At the same time, Kedah Education Committee chairman, Datuk Tajul Urus Mohd Zain also informed that the State Education Department would be investigating Khairul Najwan's allegation.

He said the department would submit their investigation report to the Education Ministry for further action.
