Terengganu recorded 453 accidents during the Op Selamat 10 road safety operation held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive period which ended on Feb 5.

State police chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman said the number was a decline of 36 cases compared to 489 in the same period last year.

"Only seven deaths were recorded during the period compared to 19 last year," he told reporters after attending the 'Hadiah Kasih Sayang' programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Belara here Sunday.

Rosli said Kuala Terengganu recorded the highest number of road accidents with 136 cases, followed by Kemaman (110) and Dungun (83).

He said the majority of the districts showed a decrease in the number of road accidents except for Kemaman.

"A total of 9,345 summonses were issued compared to 13,609 last year," he said.
