KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Sungai Buloh, Khairy Jamaluddin has insisted he was ready to lead UMNO and become Prime Minister someday.

However, to realise that Khairy wants the voters in the parliamentary constituency to first support him and ensure his victory in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"I come to Sungai Buloh not to commit suicide. This is not a kamikaze mission.

“If I win here or if the people of Sungai Buloh allow me to win in this P107, I will carry the people of Sungai Buloh, someday we will lead our country ... God willing.

"The people of Sungai Buloh support me today, God willing, and with the support of my friends, someday I will lead UMNO and I will be your Prime Minister for us to develop this country," he said during the “KJ's Promise” talk at Taman Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh on Tuesday night.

Khairy said he has never had the courage to express such firmness previously.

At the age of 46, he added, he could still wait for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia first.

"However, I have to win here first. And I have never said it, but I still want to say it but not now… now we want Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to be Prime Minister.

"I am 46 years old and can wait.. but not wait for too long," he said.

Khairy said a leader needed to come out of his comfort zone, otherwise a leader who remained in a safe zone will not be able to be a leader who could take the country to a higher level.

"I come to the dragon's lair, (with) 26,000 majority, I want to win this seat for the party, I want to lead the party and I want to lead my country," he added.

The Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat will witness a seven-way contest involving Khairy (BN), R. Ramanan (PH), Mohd. Ghazali Md Hamin (PN), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusof (GTA), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (PRM) and Nurhaslinda Basri as well as Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagof, who are independent candidates.
