MARANG: Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that no candidate from the party withdrew at the last minute during the nomination process for the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said this was because every Pas candidate had taken an oath of allegiance when named to contest in the elections

"There is none. For Pas candidates, we hold an oath (bai'ah) so that they are faithful to the promises made, as soon as they are selected as candidates.

"In total, 64 candidates from Pas are contesting for the parliamentary seats and the rest are component parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN)," he said in a press conference after being confirmed as a candidate to defend the Marang parliamentary seat today.

Hadi is confident that Pas can win at least 40 parliamentary seats across the country.

Various strategies will be set in motion including an approach on social media and a series of tours that he himself will undertake throughout the country.

Abdul Hadi will defend the Marang parliamentary seat (P037) facing opposition from Jasmira Othman (BN), Azhar Ab Shukur (PH) and Dr Zarawi Sulong (GTA).

The four-cornered contest was confirmed by the Marang parliamentary returning officer, Lizan Che Mat, at 10.40 am after the nomination process at the Marang District and Land Office ended at 10 am.
