KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia surged further at mid-morning today, lifted by persistent buying in all financial services heavyweight counters, led by CIMB Group Bhd.

At 11.05 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (KLCI) rose 20.49 points to 1,672.78 from Tuesday's close of 1,652.29.

The index opened 5.48 points higher at 1,657.77.

However, the broader market was negative as losers led gainers 491 to 413, with 426 counters unchanged, 1,186 untraded, and 42 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.76 billion units valued at RM1.36 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank jumped 22 sen to RM10.92, Public Bank advanced 10 sen to RM4.78, CIMB increased 28 sen to RM8.21, and Tenaga rose 16 sen to RM14.08, while IHH was flat at RM6.30.

As for the actives, Luster was flat at 7.5 sen, while ACE Market debutant Vetece gained 21 sen 46 sen, Notion bagged three sen to 92 sen, and JCY increased 1.5 sen to 54 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index climbed 108.51 points to 12,529.25, the FBMT 100 Index rose 113.49 points to 12,224.05, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 17.28 points to 12,342.38.

The FBM 70 Index increased by 29.95 points to 17,796.95 while the FBM ACE Index dipped 11.54 points to 5,178.40.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index garnered 33.55 points to 7,248.21 and the Financial Services Index surged 440.37 points to 19,719.22, while the Energy Index declined 8.13 points to 938.75 and the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.11 of-a-point to 183.42, .
