Money is not the key issue in getting the best education for the children.

That was the view expressed by parents around the city which generally send their children to the tuition center after school hours.

"My decision to send my son to a tuition center is not because I want to but because I have to. My son’s education is my priority," said the 48-year-old mother, Selvi Naraian.

She who is also a businesswoman said after sending her son to tuition centre, his performance in his studies is improving.

"My son needs guidance, particularly in Bahasa Malaysia subject. The Deputy Prime Minister’s (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin)initiative to increase the subject’s teaching hours is a good move," she added.

For some parents, they feel that the learning session at school is not enough in which this is the main reason for them to send their children to tuition centers.

"Maybe the teachers at the tuition centres are more skillful compared to the school teachers which is why we parents chose to send our children to tuition centres. Sometimes I find it weird because my son comes home without given any homework by the teachers," said Jeyabala Jaganathan, 39.

As for Suzlynna Mustapha, 49 she prefers private tutor for her 10-year-old son.

"I spend up to RM600 per month for a private tutor and honestly, there is an improvement. Honestly, I don’t prefer for my son to spend most of his time at the school because I want to monitor him myself," said Suzlynna .

This view is supported by Tarmiah Shakur where she does not agree for her child to spend more time at school.

"I don’t agree with extra classes at school because we as working parents do not have time to fetch and send our children to school several times a day. We only have time during the night which is why tuition center is the best solution," said Tarmiah.

Ghazali Abdul Karim, 48 is his opinion think that extra classes at school will only burden the teachers.

"Parents themselves should take part in educating their children . We can’t continue blaming the education system alone. If the children can focus better at tuition center, then send them there. Do not make money as an excuse because our children’s education is much more valuable," Abdul Karim.
