The number of COVID-19 infections in Indonesia is nearing the 150,000 mark, with the country's tally now standing at 149,408 cases and 78,877 more still being monitored for the virus.

Based on data published in the Indonesian government official website on COVID-19, www.covid19.go.id today, 2,197 new cases were recorded over the past 24 hours in the republic.

Also, from noon yesterday to noon today, 82 fatalities were reported, raising the death toll to 6,500.

During that 24-hour period, the province of Jakarta recorded 657 new cases and also 15 more deaths.

Jakarta province now has the highest number of infections with 32,267 cases, followed by East Java (29,715) while the rest were in 32 other provinces.

East Java has the highest number of deaths so far with 2,128 fatalities, followed by Jakarta (1,063), Central Java (818), South Sulawesi (347) while the rest were in other Indonesian provinces.
