Championship leader Luis Salmon of Spain on a KTM won the Moto3 race at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang on Sunday.

The Spanish pole-sitter edged out compatriot KTM rider Alex Rins in a thrilling finish.

The two were joined on the podium by Mahindra rider Miguel Oliveira of Portugal.

With the victory, Salmon extends his world championship lead to 284 points over Rins' 270.

Spanish KTM rider Maverick Vinales, who finished fifth on Sunday closely behind his compatriot Alex Marquez, is third in the standings with 258 points.
