Australia's Chaz Mostert set the fastest time in the V8 Supercar category during the free practice session of the inaugral Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix here today.

According to the V8 Supercar website, www.v8supercars.com.au, the 23-year-old of Pepsi Max Crew team clocked one minute and 36.102 seconds, ahead of Craig Lowndes of Red Bull Racing Australia who clocked 1:37.128s.

The category is held as a demonstration race which involves only five cars.

Earlier, Lowndes, a three-time V8 Supercars champion completed two laps around the tight street circuit during a heavy downpour.

He was given the privilege to test the track alone before the other categories held free practice sessions.

The KL City Grand Prix is a festival of supersports cars racing on a 3.2km circuit designed within the main streets of Kuala Lumpur.
